Master Data Quality: TÜV-Tested
Customer: TÜV NORD GRUPPE
To better respond to the diverse needs of its customers in the future and deliver a more tailored service, the TÜV NORD GRUPPE, based in Hamburg and Hannover, Germany, decided to transition to a uniform SAP-based IT infrastructure across the group. Before the TÜV NORD GRUPPE could migrate its six different legacy systems to mySAP CRM, it first had to check its one million customer master data records for duplicates. To complete this task successfully, it decided to leverage caatoosee’s SAP®-Suite DQaddress, specially developed for SAP customers.
The TÜV NORD GRUPPE opted for the caatoosee application, SAP®-Suite DQaddress, because it allowed data to be cleansed both in online and batch mode. Batch mode is perfect for one-time duplicate checks – the method adopted by TÜV NORD for the migration of one million customer master data records from six different legacy systems to SAP. Online mode is then used to prevent more duplicates occurring. "Performing the duplicate check in batch mode has made the process around 50% faster," says Gunnar Thaden, CIO of the TÜV NORD GRUPPE. "This puts us well on track to retire our legacy systems on schedule at the end of June 2003."
Faster duplicate check means enormous savings
TÜV NORD will take advantage of the online duplicate check to ensure that the level of data quality achieved during migration is maintained. Previously, when employees created a new master data record, they had to manually verify whether a record already existed. At two minutes per record, this was a lengthy and therefore costly procedure. With the new software, the check is eight times faster – well under 15 seconds. This means that the company can halve the temporary workforce employed to carry out the data checks.
High level of error tolerance improves usability and simplifies processing
Not only does the software accelerate data entry, it makes it much more user-friendly. Spelling mistakes and typing errors happen from time to time – but this need not be a problem thanks to the error-tolerant system. If the data entered differs vastly from the data stored, the system proposes a range of similar entries, making processing much easier for users. Thaden is convinced: "With caatoosee’s solution, we can be sure of a rapid return on investment."
